Student Usage and Satisfaction

The MSLC offers free walk-in tutoring in over 30 mathematics and statistics courses. We also offer places for quiet study, group study, and taking make-up exams. In total, these services are offered in 10 different rooms/suites in Cockins Hall and the Mathematics Building.

We are now collecting our data using the Tutor Trac system. Students login in and out of the system when they visit the tutor room, and Tutor Trac keeps track of how many unique students are in each room for each hour. These numbers may be below the actual number of students because not all students faithfully signed in to Tutor Trac.

Numbers for the previous years are headcounts. That is, twice an hour we counted the number of students in each room. We kept the higher number of the two. If a student stayed for two hours, they may have ended up being counted twice, so our numbers do not reflect students. The numbers more accurately represent "student hours" or "student contact hours". It is well worth noting that whether one student stayed for two hours or two students came for one hour, we would expend the same amount of resources to serve those needs. Detailed breakdowns by course or hour for MSLC tutor rooms are available by request.
